Should I get Mount & Blade: Warband with or without Mount & Blade?

With the release of Mount & Blade: Warband I have become interested but they said that it is a standalone expansion. So I'm wondering what content will be missing if I just get Warband will I have no singleplayer and only multiplayer? I'm really wondering what won't I be able to do without the original game and if so, would you get both or just the expansion?
