Why aren't the Bible & Qur'an deemed inappropriate for children?

Even the less controversial stuff is pretty shocking at times. Like the raunchy Song of Solomon, or the scary images of Revelation. I wouldn't be comfortable letting a child watch a film with such things, or reading a book on them.
