A warning on an aerosol can states, "caution, container may explode if heated." Explain using?
The gas particles within collide with the container walls, which is pressure. As the particles gain more energy from heat being added to the system, they collide at higher kinetic energies, increasing the pressure. Eventually, the can will burst. If it creates a spark on doing so, the contents may ignite. The result is not likely to be an "explosion" by definition, but a deflagration. The temperature that is printed on the side is the temperature calculated from the experimental burst pressure of the can, divided by an appropriate safety factor.
