Should I really see a psychiatrist?
a psychiatrist is simply a doctor who specializes in helping people with behavioral problems outside the usual practice of family practitioners and internists. S/he does sometimes work with what we think of as crazy people. Thank goodness there is help for people with extreme problems. Your doctor's recommendation is his way of suggesting the best evaluation and treatment of your difficulties. He is not clifying you as "mad." He knows that a psychiatrist can do a more thorough evaluation than he. You may need antidepressants to help with your sadness and anxiety. You may need behavioral techniques to increase you happiness, in which case the psychaitrist may suggest you be treated by a psychologist or other counselor. Take your doctor's recommendation. things could get worse otherwise
